Impact story:

Albosran M. Gandawali is a fourth-year Computer Engineering student at José Rizal University, Philippines, whose technical expertise has driven the development of socially responsible AI solutions centred on inclusivity and accessibility.

He was one of the pioneers, together with the RevoTech team—Computer Engineering students from Jose Rizal University: Rizelle Bautista, Joaquin Alec Hao, and Ronnalyn Francisco—under the guidance of their advisors, Engr. Rosalina Estacio and Engr. Joshua Gulmatico, who led the creation of THRIVE. THRIVE is an AI-driven employment platform designed to empower Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) by enhancing access to job opportunities, professional development, and essential digital services.

Gandawali’s motivation arose from observing the persistent barriers faced by PWDs in securing employment, despite having the skills and qualifications required by many industries. Traditional job portals often lack accessibility features, while employers demonstrate hiring biases and skill gaps. Recognising how technology could address these systemic challenges, he sought to build a platform that matched candidates to opportunities and also strengthened their confidence and employability.

THRIVE applies artificial intelligence across its core functions. A recommendation engine analyses each candidate’s skills, qualifications, and preferences to identify roles aligned with their capabilities; an AI-powered résumé builder extracts key information and structures it into clear, employer-ready summaries; and an AI career coach offers tailored guidance on interviews, career pathways, and upskilling options. Together, these tools help PWD jobseekers present their strengths effectively while reducing the influence of bias in recruitment. The platform also incorporates accessibility-centred architecture, including screen-reader compatibility, simplified navigation, and assistive interface options to accommodate diverse abilities and devices.

Early collaboration with PWD organisations, employers, government agencies, and disability affairs offices shaped the system’s development and validated its relevance. These engagements ensured that THRIVE addressed practical concerns – from employers’ need for verified profiles and transparent skills matching to jobseekers’ requirements for accessible tools and credible training pathways. The platform now serves as a bridge between skilled PWD candidates and employers committed to inclusive hiring, strengthening confidence and capability on both sides.

THRIVE’s core AI features have enhanced the ability of PWD jobseekers to navigate the employment process, apply to suitable roles, and access professional development resources, while early employer feedback highlights increased willingness to hire PWD candidates due to clearer information and inclusive design. The platform has also expanded community engagement by connecting users to training providers and mentorship programmes, encouraging awareness of PWD talents and supporting a more inclusive perception of the workforce.

Recognised as the Top 9 Outstanding Student Leader of the Philippines 2025 and as one of the Ten Outstanding Rizalian Student Leaders, he has also been honored with the Innovative Leader Award and the Creative Visionary Award by the Institute of Computer Engineers of the Philippines – JRU Chapter. Albosran has also gained national and international recognition through programmes such as PLDT & Smart Innovation Generation 4.0, CSE Sustainovate 2025, and the Asia World Model United Nations.
